Digital Director
Overview
Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) is looking for an experienced Digital Director to help lead and expand the organization’s digital media presence. The Digital Director will develop ARI’s digital media strategy, deliver ARI’s message to policymakers and grassroots supporters across digital platforms, and help to manage and build ARI’s brand online.

ARI is a nonprofit organization advocating for artificial intelligence policy in the public interest. We believe in establishing a thoughtful governance framework for rapidly advancing AI technology that protects the public from harm while continuing to foster innovation. ARI takes a bipartisan approach, building coalitions across the political spectrum.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive ARI’s digital media strategy, working to achieve increased growth and reach goals across multiple digital platforms.
- In coordination with the Policy and Communications teams, create new and engaging digital content supporting ARI’s mission.
- Devise creative strategies to inject ARI’s views into online policy debates.
- Oversee a budget for paid digital advertising, deploying digital ad funding to grow ARI’s online following, share ARI’s message, and attract support for ARI’s grassroots work.
- Manage digital newsletters targeting ARI’s grassroots audience and supporters.
- Concept, design, and produce digital graphics and videos for distribution on social media.
- Maintain ARI’s website and work with developers to build an online presence for the Center for Responsible Innovation (501c3).
- Use digital engagement to build our relationship with coalition partners.
- Be the guardian of ARI’s voice and reputation online.

Qualifications
Required
- 5-7 years of experience executing digital campaigns with demonstrated results, including some experience designing and managing creative digital campaigns.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively and succinctly communicate complex concepts.
- Experience using social media analytics and metrics to improve effectiveness
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to juggle simultaneous priorities.
- Experience using digital advertising to increase reach and followers on social media.
- Ability to think creatively, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.
- Working knowledge of website management systems like WordPress, and a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Strong understanding of graphic design for social media, web, and email graphics.
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s Degree in digital communications, media, public relations, and/or campaign communications.
- Demonstrated expertise on Twitter, Substack, LinkedIn, and Bluesky.
- Experience working in political advocacy.
- Experience managing digital grassroots mobilization efforts.
Compensation, Benefits, and Location
This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC. Relocation assistance may be available. ARI maintains a flexible hybrid work schedule (working in-person Tuesday-Thursday and remote on Monday and Friday).
The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $160,000, commensurate with experience.

Anticipated Hiring Process
We plan to use the following steps for this hiring process. We are aiming to make a decision by the end of August and for the person in this role to start mid-September.
- Application Review: Our team will review submitted applications and make a decision on who to move forward to the next interview stage.
- Screening Interview: Applicants will meet our recruiter during a phone interview.
- Interview with Hiring Manager: Candidates will meet with the Vice President of Communications for a one-on-one interview.
- Hiring Exercise: Candidates will be asked to complete a written exercise to see how they might complete a core responsibility of the role. Candidates who submit an exercise will be compensated for their time.
- Team Interview: The top 2-3 candidates will meet with members of the ARI team in person at our downtown DC office.
- Reference Checks: We’ll ask for references from the top candidate(s) to help us confirm and/or make a final decision.
- Decision and Offer: Based on the information gathered over the course of this process, we’ll make a decision on who to offer the role to and move on to onboarding and other new hire logistics!
