Overview 

Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) is seeking a Legislative Analyst to join our growing Government Affairs team. The Legislative Analyst will conduct legislative research to support the Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Directors of Government Affairs in developing and executing ARI's advocacy strategy and outreach to policymakers.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, the Legislative Analyst will be responsible for conducting research, drafting memos, and providing support for ARI’s advocacy efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legislative procedure, familiarity with AI and tech policy, and a commitment to ARI's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track legislation, hearings, congressional letters, and agency actions related to AI policy.
  • Attend briefings, hearings, and other events related to AI policy.
  • Provide support for ARI's engagement with lawmakers and their staff, including preparation of talking points and briefing materials.
  • Assist with the coordination of ARI's advocacy campaigns and initiatives.
 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a legislative or policy-related role
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Close familiarity with congressional procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to ARI's mission and values.
 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on Capitol Hill and with lawmakers and their staff.
  • Knowledge of AI policy and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with coalition-building and grassroots advocacy.
  • Strong political network and reputation in DC
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain trust-based, productive relationships
  • Reputation for trustworthiness and integrity
  • Collaborative and bipartisan coalition-building skill set and experience

Compensation, Benefits, and Location

This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC. Relocation assistance may be available. ARI maintains a flexible hybrid work schedule (working in-person Tuesday-Thursday and remote on Monday and Friday).

 

The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience.

Hiring Process

We plan to use the following steps for this hiring process. We are aiming to make a decision by the end of May and for the person in this role to start in June. Candidates who apply by April 11th will receive priority consideration.

 
  1. Application Review: Our team will review submitted applications and make a decision on who to move forward to the next step of the process. 
  2. 1st Round Interview: Virtual 1:1 conversation with our recruiter. 
  3. 2nd Round Interview: Virtual 1:1 conversation with the Hiring Manager. 
  4. Hiring Exercise: A roughly 3 hour hiring exercise. Candidates who submit an exercise will be compensated for their time. 
  5. Final Interview: In-person panel interview at our office. 
  6. Reference Checks: We’ll ask for references from the top candidate(s) to help us confirm and/or make a final decision.
